Great Belgian Waffle Iron
$235.00
Edit January 12th: The Great Belgian Waffle Iron is no longer on backorder. We have received our new bases. It may take about a week and a half to process the new bases and fulfill your order, but the “Back Order” status has been removed. The new bases have the same stay cool spring handle as the paddles. The new base also lowers the Great Belgian to within approximately a 1/4″ from the cook surface, supporting use with induction cook tops. Upon receiving your Great Belgian Waffle Iron, if the waffle paddle does not heat up on your induction cook top, you may return for a refund. Please test before applying a cooking spray.
The Great Belgian Waffle Iron is a commercial grade, hand finished, heavy duty waffle iron (cast iron.) Exactly like our GAWI. The Great Belgian WI shares many features with The Great American Waffle Iron. They both use the same base, the same ball joint, and the same stay cool spring handles, and both produce a 7 inch diameter waffle. The Great Belgian produces a one-inch-thick waffle, while the GAWI produces a half inch thick waffle. Current production paddles are interchangeable, meaning you can use one Belgian and one GAWI paddle to produce a 3/4″ waffle with stars on one side and squares on the other. This waffle iron is a bit thicker, and a bit heavier. The entire assembly weighs in at 16 pounds. This cast iron mass makes for exceptionally even heating. Ideal cooking temperature is between 400-430. (Be sure to increase the heat a small amount after pouring your first waffle.) Using an infrared thermometer eliminates guesswork. With practice, though, many accomplished wafflers judge the heat of their waffle iron by the sizzle made with a few drops of water flicked onto the waffle iron. If you are an introvert and a “yes” person, don’t let friends and family know that you own this waffle iron. You will receive more invitations to come over and help make breakfast, dinner, etc. than you can handle. The Lion gracing the front of this waffle iron is inspired by the Belgian Coat of Arms. It holds symbolic meaning for Belgians like the shielded eagle holds for those of us in the USA. Start with a good waffle recipe from our website. If you have a great recipe that you’d like to share, please email it to us. (Yes, several of our product photos are set in the Grand Platz in Brussels.)

Description
- This multi-generational cook piece pays homage to the 100+ year old waffle makers still in use around the country.
- Lifetime warranty covering materials and workmanship.
- Produced with more mass than traditional cast iron waffle makers to ensure that every waffle is cooked quickly and evenly, providing a beautiful release every time. There is more thermal mass, so the waffle iron has a shorter recovery time between waffles.
- Classic ball and socket joint is fun to use.
- Excellent results on gas, coil top, and glass top stoves. Compatible with most induction ranges, but not Bosch and some LG. (Test that the field will excite a metal surface 3/4’s of an inch above the burner.)
- Made in America by American craftsmen
- The Great Belgian Waffle Iron is cast in a US Industrial foundry using modern technology. It is hand finished in Tennessee and seasoned using certified Kosher grapeseed oil. You will see some minor tooling marks where the casting is cleaned up by hand in our workshop. Because our foundry uses a very fine grained sand, the surface texture is very smooth, and you may see minor sandshifts or other, minor variations. Each piece is ready to make your family superb waffles for generations.
