Appalachian Cast Iron sells, or may sell in the future, cooking implements made of Cast Iron, or other metals, cooking utensils, aprons, cutting boards, or various other articles. All of these items can be misused in a manner that leads to serious injury or death. Please use common sense. Our products are fun to use but are not toys. If improperly handled by adults or children serious burns, contusions, concussions, lacerations, or concussions may occur. Do not use them in any manner that could lead to these conditions. Cookware gets hot during use. Even with a very good handle design, assume you will get burned until you have carefully verified the temperature of a handle. Our leather handle covers are wonderful, but should not be left on a handle going into an oven. It doesn’t work that way. Despite what you have seen on cartoons, do not ever hit anyone with a skillet or other piece of cookware. Some courts may construe this as deadly force. If your life is in danger, do what you must do to survive, then sort it out later. The purchaser is responsible for any other parties that they allow to use their cookware. If other people in the household are not trustworthy to be safe, put locks on the cabinets.
In case of grease fire do a quick Google search and follow instructions. If time does not permit a Google search, DO NOT pick up the cook piece with the fire. Attempt to smother with a lid (cookie sheet perhaps). Get the Fire extinguisher that you SHOULD maintain in an easily accessible location and spray at the base of the flame. It’s going to make a bit of a mess, and may just save your life. Remember, coffee is hot, as well as a lot of other things.
Our cast iron products are warranted, period. If there is ever a defect in craftsmanship, or material failure from normal wear and tear, we will opt to replace it with like kind and quality or refund the purchase price to the original owner or one traced descendant. This warranty does require proper use and care. The owner will pay return shipping. Appalachian Cast Iron will be responsible for shipping back to customer. Before shipping to Appalachian Cast Iron, the customer must contact us and get an RGA (return goods authorization.)
Non cast iron products that we produce and sell are warranted for 1 year against defects in craftsmanship or material failure under normal residential use and conditions. Proper use and care are required.
A note about our cast products: Our pieces are made of hot, liquid iron poured into a sacraficial sand mold. You may notice some minor surface variations as a result. Two common types are known as sand shifts, where the sand shifts slightly in the mold, leaving a line, not a crack. Some pieces have a "Flea bite," a very small pocket in the surface of the iron. These occur occasionally as a normal part of the casting process. We carefully inspect each piece and screen for any defect that would interfere with proper cooking function. We do not mill, or carve our products. Milling, or carving with a cutter head, adds considerable cost to production and can produce a surface that does not season efficiently. Our process yields a wonderful surface texture, much finer than most cast products. The surface texture is particularly good at retaining and building seasoning quickly. Any minor variations in the cooking surface typically fill in quickly as you cook with the piece. Our pieces are Functional, Durable, and Artful. However, they are not art. Every piece of cast iron will have very minor differences from piece to piece, much like a finger print. All pieces have a gate where the liquid iron is poured into the sand mold. These gates leave a tab of metal that is removed during our finishing process. They are on every piece.
If we ever offer food products or spices, these items are not returnable.
After you receive your purchase from Appalachian Cast Iron, if you decide it just isn't right for you, please contact us for an RGA (return goods Authorization.) You may return anything to us for a refund within 30 days of purchase and receive a refund minus card processing fees and a 15% restocking fee. The product must be returned in unused condition. Customer will pay return shipping.

“WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer.” WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including wood dust and grapeseed oil, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer. For more information, go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.”
In reality, we have not been through the pages and pages of the prop 65 information, but we do know that when wood dust is racing west out of Reno on I-80 going to Sacramento, something horribly wrong happens with its molecules and wood dust becomes carcinogenic. Our goods are packed in cardboard and some of our products contain wood, or are wood (Not our cookware, it's iron.) We felt compelled to include this warning so that our California customers could still legally purchase our products.
Our boxes are designed and manufactured by a local company that custom designed and produced the boxes for our specific products. Tony is an extreme pragmatist when it comes to packaging. He immediately throws away his cell phone box, new laptop packaging, etc. When he opens a consumer good, he often contemplates the frivolity of the unpacking experience. The unpacking experience lasts exactly once. He packs your cast iron to safely make the journey, and many have traveled successfully to the far reaches of the globe. However, he has not invested extra dollars to provide a luxurious unboxing experience. He views that as simply driving up costs. If you enjoy a luxurious unboxing experience, please be aware that you will be receiving a plain brown box with item specific padding, bracing, shrink wrap, and tape. Ironitems also receive an insert printed from an office printer on regular printerpaper. Not a glossy brochure. Our packaging is quite unassuming, our products will amaze you and your great grandchildren.
